Meet the Team
Erika Oller, LCSW
Founder, Program Manager, Board Member
I started picking up trash by myself in early 2025. I felt increasingly hopeless and helpless at the state of the world. With much encouragement from friends, I decided to try and turn my trash-walking into something bigger.
Outside of DeTrash Syracuse, I work full-time as a social worker. You may also find me playing pickleball and obsessing over my two cats. I am originally from the Chicagoland area and am a transplant to Syracuse, as of approximately 2 years ago.

As an NY native and transplant to the Syracuse area, I was looking for a way to volunteer locally and make new friends. I came across a post about the first DeTrash event on social media and decided to check it out. Between the wonderful community and the tangible impact we were making, I was hooked from the start and have been a consistent member ever since.
When I'm not helping out with DeTrash or working as a software engineer, you can usually find me rock climbing, swing dancing, gardening, or hanging out with my two cats.

Syracuse is my home, and I was looking for a way to get more involved locally, meet new people, and make a difference in the community. I came across DeTrash on social media and decided to give it a try. The chance to meet great people while helping clean up the city I love quickly made me want to keep coming back.
When I'm not volunteering with DeTrash or working as a truck driver, you can usually find me kayaking, hiking, or enjoying the outdoors.
